Manifestation for High-Achieving Women - The Science Behind Dreaming Big

When was the last time you let yourself dream big?

Not "take a trip to Europe" big. Not "get a raise" big. The kind of big that feels embarrassing to say out loud. The kind that your younger self said without hesitation.

Mine was owning a pink limousine and becoming the first woman president.

I didn't know those dreams were supposed to be unrealistic yet. None of us did.

What Happens to Our Dreams

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, most women's dreams quietly shrink. And this isn't just a feeling… it's documented. Research shows that girls begin to question their intelligence and capability relative to boys as early as age 5. By the time we're adults, many of us have spent decades editing ourselves down without even realizing it.

As a mom, this breaks my heart. As a woman who has done the hard work of becoming her truest self, it makes me want to go back and hold my younger self…the one who hadn't yet learned to make herself smaller, and tell her to hold onto that.

Because there is so much our younger selves knew that we've forgotten. How to play. How to laugh without self-consciousness. How to want things fully, without immediately calculating whether we deserve them.

The Science Behind Visualization and Why It Works for Women

This isn't about wishful thinking. There's real science behind it.

As a collegiate athlete, I was taught to visualize: to see myself competing before I ever stepped into the moment. It's a technique used by elite athletes across every sport, and the research is clear… the brain responds to vivid mental imagery in many of the same ways it responds to real experience. Visualization builds neural pathways. It primes you for the actions that follow.

The same principle applies to life. You cannot build a life you've never allowed yourself to imagine. If we don't know what the dream actually looks like, the career, the relationship, the version of yourself you're working toward, we have no real destination. We're just optimizing for someone else's definition of success.

This is why dreaming big is one of the first things I explore with the women I work with. Not as an exercise in fantasy, but as a foundation. Because clarity on what you actually want is the beginning of everything.

How to Start

If it's been a while since you've let yourself dream without editing, start small. Give yourself five minutes with no judgment, no practicality, no "but how would that even work."

Ask yourself, if you could design your life with no limitations, what would it look like? What would your days feel like? Who would you be spending your time with? Where would you be living? What would you have stopped tolerating? What would finally feel easy?

It might feel uncomfortable at first. Most worthwhile things do. But like any practice, it becomes more natural over time. And what starts as a few minute exercise has a way of quietly reorienting everything.

Want to Be Led Through It?

If you'd prefer a guided experience, especially if you're someone whose mind doesn't easily quiet on its own, I highly recommend the app Activations.

As a woman with ADHD, traditional meditation has never come easily to me. My mind moves fast and sitting in silence often feels more frustrating than restorative. Activations changed that. It's built around specific focus areas — wealth, health and body, relationships, and more, so instead of forcing yourself into a generic practice, you can find something that actually fits where your head is that day.

It's one of the tools I genuinely use and recommend. If visualization feels like something you want to explore but don't know where to start, this is a beautiful place to begin.

Your dreams didn't disappear. They're just waiting for you to take them seriously again.

If this resonated, I want to hear from you — drop a comment, send me a message, or just sit with the question: what did you dream about before life got loud?

Because here's what I know — it's not the dream that's the problem. It's the gap between where you are and where you want to be, and not having a clear system to close it.

That's exactly what Smart Women School is built for.

If you're ready to stop waiting and start building, book a free discovery call and let's figure out what's actually in the way.

You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up.
