Free and Discounted Health Resources You're Probably Not Using (But Should Be)

Your health insurance, whether through your job, your spouse, or your own plan, may be covering free therapy, nutritionists, fitness memberships, and menopause care. Here's what to claim.

As a consultant working with Fortune 250 companies, I've seen something over and over: people leave thousands of dollars of free and discounted health resources completely unclaimed every year. Not because they don't care, but because no one told them these resources exist.

From free therapy to dietitians, fitness memberships to menopause care, your health insurance plan may already be covering more than you think. Let's break it all down — and how to actually access it.

Fitness & Physical Wellness

Active&Fit Direct

Active&Fit Direct gives you access to thousands of gym locations nationwide for as low as $28/month — no long-term contracts required. They also have hundreds of on demand workout videos for the ladies who don’t have time to make it to the gym. It's available through many employers and insurance plans, including USAA members. Check your benefits portal or ask your insurance provider to see if it's included. This is one of the most underused gym discounts out there.

Available through: Many employers, USAA, and various health plans

Hinge Health

Hinge Health offers app-based physical therapy for back, knee, hip, and joint pain — completely free through your employer or benefits plan. No copay, no waitlist, no in-person appointments required. With access through over 2,800 companies and benefit plans, there's a strong chance it's already available to you. Check if you're covered here.

Available through: 2,800+ companies and benefit plans

Free Nutrition & Dietitian Services

Did you know that registered dietitian visits are often fully covered under major insurance plans — including plans you get through a spouse or on your own? Most people assume nutrition coaching is an out-of-pocket expense. It's not. Here are three platforms that connect you to licensed dietitians at little to no cost.

Nourish

Nourish connects you with a registered dietitian virtually, fully covered by many major insurance plans. Whether you're managing a chronic condition, working on weight goals, or just want a personalized nutrition plan, Nourish makes it simple to get expert guidance from home.

Accepted insurance: United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medicare, Cigna

Top Nutrition Coaching

Top Nutrition Coaching pairs you with a certified nutrition coach based on your health goals, dietary needs, and schedule — covered by most major insurers. One of the most overlooked insurance-covered wellness programs out there.

Accepted insurance: BCBS, Anthem, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare

Fay

Fay is a nationwide network of registered dietitians that works directly with your insurance. Search for a dietitian by specialty, condition, or dietary preference — and pay little to nothing out of pocket if your plan is covered.

Accepted insurance: Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna

Free Women's Health Care

Midi Health — Free Perimenopause & Menopause Care

Midi Health is a telehealth platform specifically designed for women in perimenopause and menopause — covered by several major insurance plans at no out-of-pocket cost. Women's hormonal health has historically been underfunded and underserved. Midi is changing that with board-certified clinicians who specialize in this stage of life. If you're navigating symptoms like brain fog, hot flashes, or sleep disruption, this is a free resource worth knowing about.

Accepted insurance: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Net, Cigna, United Healthcare

Free Mental Health Support

BetterHelp — 6 Months Free

BetterHelp is one of the world's largest online therapy platforms, connecting you with a licensed therapist via messaging, phone, or video. There's currently a voucher available for 6 months of free access — no insurance required.

How to claim it: Visit betterhelp.com/voucher and use code helpingyoubh

Note: You must use an email address not previously registered on BetterHelp. Voucher was valid as of May 2026 — confirm availability before using.

How to Find Out What You're Already Covered For

Whether your insurance is through your employer, a spouse's plan, or a marketplace policy, the process is the same. Log in to your insurance provider's member portal and look for "wellness programs," "telehealth," or "mental health benefits." You can also call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask directly what free or discounted programs are included.

The system doesn't always make it easy to find what you're owed. But these resources exist — and now you know where to look. Share this with someone who could use a little financial relief on their healthcare costs. They'll thank you for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need employer benefits to access these resources? No. Many of these platforms are covered through individual plans, marketplace insurance, Medicare, and spouse plans — not just employer benefits. Check your specific plan to confirm.

Are these resources truly free, or are there hidden costs? Most of these platforms are fully covered when accessed through the correct insurance channel. Always confirm coverage before your first appointment to avoid surprise billing.

What if I don't have insurance at all? The BetterHelp voucher is available regardless of insurance status. For the others, check if you qualify for Medicaid or a marketplace plan — several of these platforms accept both.

Can I use more than one of these at the same time? Absolutely. These are separate programs. You could use Hinge Health for joint pain, Nourish for nutrition, and BetterHelp for mental health support all at once.

And this is the part most people miss: finding the tools is only step one.

You can have access to free therapy, a registered dietitian, a gym membership, menopause support, wellness apps, and physical therapy — and still struggle to create lasting change. Not because you’re lazy or unmotivated, but because long-term health is rarely about information alone. It’s about building systems that work in real life.

That’s why so many people start strong and fall off. They download the app but stop using it. They meet with the nutritionist once but never implement the plan consistently. They join the gym but can’t figure out how to make it fit into an already overwhelming schedule. The resources are valuable, but knowing how to sustainably use them is what actually changes your life.

That’s where coaching comes in.

At Smart Women School, my goal isn’t just to help women save money on healthcare and wellness resources — it’s to help them finally create a realistic, sustainable approach to their health, energy, routines, and goals. I help women take all of these tools, benefits, and wellness resources and turn them into systems they can actually maintain long term.

Because the real transformation doesn’t happen when you find the tools. It happens when you finally learn how to use them consistently.
